Frequently asked questions
Do I need an EMRC Membership?
You need a membership in an ABA affiliated club or a general ABA membership (does not have to be EMRC). You do not need a UCI license. By registering for the event you become a temporary member of EMRC.
What are the categories?
There will be A, B and C categories. C is the slowest, while A is the fastest and most experienced. You can move up or down twice over the season, but you only carry 50% of your points on a move up. If you are moving down, it’s probably because you don’t have points.
Where are the Races Located?
We will be having criteriums at the Research Park (just east of South Edmonton Common) or at the Edmonton Expo grounds ( just north of Borden Park).
Time trials will be on Township Rd 520 from the Strathcona Olympiette Center and Township Road 510 east or Range Road 220.
More details on the courses on each race notice.
Where do I register?
All entries are on Zone 4 only and will open about a week before the event, closing at midnight the day before. No onsite registration.
Do I have to sign on?
Yes – at the race start line before each event.
Do I need to bring race numbers?
No, as we have numbers and pins. Numbers must be returned each night.
Are there age restrictions?
We can have riders from U17 through Masters. Riders under 18 must have a parent/guardian sign-off.
Do I have to volunteer?
No, you don’t have to, but some clubs have agreed to supply volunteers, so your club might ask you to volunteer to marshal. We have people in place to run the events, so it will be marshalling or assisting with timing etc.
Racers volunteering will be given 2 series points for each volunteer night, so it may help your series result.
Is there prizing?
There will not be prizes for individual events, but there will be season series cash prizes. These will depend on rider participation versus expenses. We want to keep the racing inexpensive, safe, and fun. Keeping costs reasonable for racers is a priority. There could be a few preems.
How do the points work?
Criteriums 1st 15 / 2nd 12 / 3rd 10 / 4th 8 / 5th 6 / 6th 4
ITT: same except 2 points for 7th and 1 for 8th.
Two up TTs will use same point scale as TTs but teams will be handicapped depending on the riders in the team. We will have to see how this works.
A and A: +4 min / A and B: + 3 min / A and C or B and B + 2min / B and C +1 min / 2 C - base
Where do I find the race results?
We will post results on Zone4, our webpage and the Edmonton Mid Week Racing Facebook page ASAP. As we are not using photo finish or chips, please do not expect results outside of the points positions for criteriums. We will do our best!
